Os produtores de leite começam a lavar o leite devido ao coronavírus

O fazendeiro Ryan Elbe disse à WISN-TV que estão despejando cerca de 113.000 litros por dia.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               O coronavírus secou o mercado de laticínios, já que restaurantes, escolas e empresas de serviços de alimentação foram fechados. Cerca de um terço dos produtos lácteos do estado, principalmente queijo, são vendidos no comércio de serviços alimentícios.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            “Achamos que isso nunca iria acontecer”, disse Elbe. “Todo mundo está correndo para o supermercado para conseguir comida, e nós temos comida que está sendo literalmente despejada pelo ralo”.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               O Journal Sentinel informou que a cooperativa de Elbe, Dairy Farmers of America, por enquanto concordou em pagá-los pelo leite que está sendo despejado. Mas, como a maioria das cooperativas, o DFA só pode fazer isso por tanto tempo.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Alguns dos maiores grupos agrícolas de Wisconsin estão pedindo ao Departamento de Agricultura dos EUA que use dinheiro sob a lei federal de estímulo ao coronavírus para comprar grandes quantidades de leite em pó, manteiga e queijo que normalmente iriam a restaurantes e à indústria de serviços de alimentação.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Os grupos, incluindo a Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, a Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative e a Dairy Business Association, fizeram seu pedido em uma carta ao secretário de Agricultura dos EUA, Sonny Perdue.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               “Os preços dos produtos lácteos caíram e resultarão em preços mais baixos do que muitas fazendas podem suportar para sustentar a viabilidade a longo prazo”, afirmou a carta.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Para a maioria das pessoas, o coronavírus causa sintomas leves ou moderados, como febre e tosse, que desaparecem em duas a três semanas. Para alguns, especialmente idosos e pessoas com problemas de saúde existentes, pode causar doenças mais graves, incluindo pneumonia e morte.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Os pais de Elbe começaram a fazenda com 80 vacas em 1991, uma operação que cresceu para 2.400 vacas hoje.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               “Penso que muito leite será despejado de repente. Todo mundo do setor está se sentindo angustiado agora”, disse Julie Sweney, porta-voz da FarmFirst Dairy Cooperative, em Madison.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Os preços do leite dos agricultores gradualmente voltaram a níveis lucrativos recentemente, depois de mais de cinco anos de luta.
